Copper Elongation and Tensile Strength Requirements - EPTAC - Train. Work Smarter. Succeed

Question: IPC-TM-650, 2.4.18.1 is the method for testing in-house plating for tensile strength and elongation, but where can I find the IPC requirements for results? For example, military standard MIL-PRF-31032 states copper elongation shall be 12% minimum, and tensile strength shall be 248 MPa minimum. What are the minimums per IPC?

Answer: I cannot find any reference to tensile strength or elongation in the Mil-PRF-31032 B document. The place to find that information in IPC documents is in IPC-4101, Specification for Base Materials and Rigid and Multilayer Printed Boards. You must know the type of laminate you are using and select the appropriate specification sheet number.
